rCard: Interactive 1GB Video Business Card

  October 5th, 2005

Now this is interesting. Promotional company CEO IQ has pulled the curtains on a credit-card sized flash drive with a built in 1.875" square color screen. Targeted towards companies looking to deliver messages that stand out, the rCard is able to display text, graphics, motion video, and time-activated content, all of which can be controlled by a small button joystick in the top right corner.

Imagine being handed an rCard at a convention detailing the different booths on the show floor, with brief descriptions of their products. After the convention's keynote is over, detailed product specifications and videos of the next big product are automatically activated on the rCard along with directions to a booth where you can actually try it out. Not bad indeed.

Companies can personalize the rCard with their own logo and color scheme, and load up to a gig's worth of data either at the factory or over a USB connection. A paper-thin battery powers the device for 200 viewings (4 hours continuous), and can hold a charge for 7 years on standby. Now if these can be reprogrammed by any user, then I'll be attending conventions left and right to pick one up. Bulk pricing starts at $25 per card.
