In what is sure to instill either a love it or hate it reaction comes word of SanDisk's latest creation: the
Memory Vault. What makes the Sandisk Memory Vault so special is that it can reportedly store your data safely for 100 years. This certainly is longer than what most storage technologies can offer before "bit rot" or data degradation occurs. SanDisk claims that through their proprietary Chronolock technology not only will you be able to safely store all your family photos and other highly critical data, your great grandchildren will be able to access them, a century later.
While SanDisk is known for releasing ultra high quality products, we do have to wonder how much of a placebo effect this claim really is. The fact of the matter is that in 100 years it is highly doubtful that your great grandkids will have a computer that can interface with the Memory Vault's USB 2.0 port. This means your data may in fact last a hundred years, but the chances are rather slim that USB standard will last as long. If, however, you are positive you want a storage device that you can put away in your safety deposit box at the bank with all your other valuables, then this may be the ideal product for you. Just expect to pay a premium for all that 100 year technology and lifetime (of the company) warranty, as the 16GB will set you back a whopping $79.99 and even the 8GB versions goes for $49.99.
