SanDisk Sues Everyone Willy Nilly for Patent Infringement

SanDisk has put the smack down on virtually every flash drive maker there is for patent infringement. SanDisk, whose flagship flash drive is the Cruzer Contour, is suing 25 different flash drive makers including some well-known names like Corsair, Kingston, and PNY.

The goal of the suit is to get the infringing parties to agree to a license agreement, and put a huge cash infusion into the SanDisk coffers at the same time. It is a bit odd that SanDisk is just now filing suit against these makers when they have mostly all been making the drives for years. Perhaps, SanDisk was waiting until the market was relying on its technology and they could be more certain of a win. SanDisk says it will seek an injunction and import ban on any manufacturer who won’t succumb to the dark side… I mean agree to its licensing program.
