Bouncing Hybrid USB Camera, Flash Drive

  January 20th, 2006

Bouncing Hybrid USB Camera, Flash DriveWhat you see here isn't your average $30 USB webcam, which merely passes the test for consumer-level video conferencing. There's substance behind this toy-like camera, but the developers are asking for venture capital as of this writing. So retail pricing and availability are anyone's guess.

Back to the subject, the sphere-shaped SatuGO is unique in its own right. The 3-megapixel cam takes pics whenever it hits a surface. Basically, you throw the USB gadget that let gravity take care of the rest. There's also a timer and flash. Granted you won't be able to preview the pictures, but that's the merit of SatuGO. Surprises. Other than a still DSC, the SatuGO is a flash drive and a outdoor USB webcam.

The part we enjoyed most is the developers' ingenuity in squeezing so many different parts into a tennis ball-sized rubber casing, inside of which are a CCD, battery (rechargeable via USB), diode flash, 1GB NAND and another layer of hard plastic to protect the fragile components.

One more thing, sign up for the SatuGO mailing list. We reckon the Denmark-based company will try to persue the VC with the subscriber number to get them some funding for this project.
