Portable USB Scanner turns Film Negatives into Digital Photos

  June 12th, 2007

If you have tons of old film slides or negatives lying around from the pre-digital camera era that you want to store digitally, Hammacher has a way to digitize them. The Slide and Negative to digital picture converter is a portable USB powered scanner with a 5MP CMOS with 10-bit color sensor that shoots the negatives and slides, turning them into digital pictures just like you took them with a modern camera. You place the slides or negatives into the scanner, press a button and everything else is done automatically. The converter sells for $99.95, which is not too expensive for those considering paying to have slides or negatives converted. The device scans images with up to 1829 dpi and uses three LEDs as a backlight source. The image makes the device look large, but it measures in at 6.5" x 3.5" x 3.5".
