  February 13th, 2006

Sony DSC-W50 & W30 DSCs Boost ISO 1000Sony has debuted a duo of the new DSC-Wxx digital camera series. The consumer-oriented DSC-W50 & W30 each sports a 6MP lens with a max. resolution of 1920x1080, a Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom, eye level viewfinders and Memory Stick Pro Duo support. Besides the usual features, the DSC-W50 & W30 both include ultra-high light sensitivity settings up to ISO 1000, and their patented Clear RAW technology is supposed to reduce the noise that makes the pics grainy and blurry.

The Sony cameras are of course Hi-Speed USB enabled, and they have 32MB built-in, just like their siblings. On a single charge, you can snap up to 400 shots before the battery needs to be replaced or recharged. The W-series can also record movie with audio at 640x480 (30 / 16fps) or 160x112 (8fps). The main difference between the $250 W50 & $230 W30 is the screen size. The slightly more expensive W50 has a 2.5" with 115k pixels whereas the lower-end W30 has a 2" LCD displaying 85k pixels.
