Sony Micro Vault with 28MB/s & File Compressor

  April 19th, 2005

Sony has released info on the four latest additions to its Micro Vault flash drive-series. Touted as the flagship model, the gold-colored USM-EX Turbo is reminiscent of current Micro Vault Elite. There's nothing especially interesting except it now hits 28MB/s read & 18MB/s write, second fastest speed to date.

Both the new USM-D Plus and USM-E Plus both bundle Sony's Virtual Expander - a fancy name for a file compression program that lets you squeeze more space by either zipping a single file or the entire drive on-the-fly.

The last model is the USM-F, a fingerprint authentication device with a built-in 256MB USB flash drive. Basically, it keeps the fingerprint image as a reference and bars others from triggering website passwords and accessing bookmarks. This feature only works on Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. Its nifty docking station lays flat on a desktop that doubles as a USB extension cable.
