Toshiba AT200 Android Tablet Goes from Fat to Thin, May Get USB Host
Looking like a before and after picture from a battle with anorexia, Toshiba's super thin AT200 tablet couldn't have more contrast with the Toshiba Thrive. The new tablet is the sliver-sized champion of the current tablet market. Measuring just 7.7mm thick, the AT200 is 1.1mm thinner than the iPad 2 and .1 mm slimmer than the next thinnest competitor the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Toshiba AT200 is also laying claim to the 'lightest' banner as well at 550g. It also ditches the ubiquitous nVidia Tegra 2 CPU for a TI OMAP processor. It will still launch with the latest Android Honeycomb 3.2 and boasts a respectable 8 hour battery life.

Although unavailable in writing, rumor from the show floor is that the included micro-USB port may have USB host functions. This would give the Toshiba AT200 a huge advantage as a multimedia playback device. The AT200 could connect directly to almost any USB hard drive or flash drive and playback music or videos. Adding this type of extra storage would set you back a few hundred dollars to get the same function added to the iPad. Only the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has that ability in the current stable of top tablet contenders. There's still no word on the exact price but Toshiba has made a practice of delivering lower retail prices on its wares, even if they are a little late getting them to market.
