Toshiba's First PMP - the gigabeat S

  January 5th, 2006

Toshiba's First PMP - the gigabeat SExpanding the Gigabeat to new horizons, Toshiba has turned their gigabeat line of digital audio players into portable media centers with the gigabeat S series. Powered by Windows Mobile and Freescale processors, the new portable media player is able to playback WMA Loseless, WMA, MP3, WAV, WMV and JPEG files synchronized from Media Center PCs and shows recorded on TiVo Series 2 boxes.

The player itself is much like others in the gigabeat line, sporting a vertical design with a plus pad for navigation, 30GB or 60GB drives, and a decent 2.4" QVGA screen. Of course if you buy a PMP for portable video, you'll be happy to know the battery can withstand 5 hours of video playback, very nice indeed. The gigabeat S should come out this Spring in blue, black, and white editions.
