Toshiba Gigabeat U DAP Boosts 1-bit DAC

Toshiba is announcing a new flash based DAP device called the Gigabeat U. The DAP will come in 1GB or 2GB capacities and white or orange on the 1GB and blue color for the 2GB version. Sound quality is improved by using a new chip that has a 1bit DAC. The display is a 1.1” OLED and the overall size of the DAP is 36.2 W x 10.9 D x 76.5mm H. A built in FM tuner allows you to listen to radio on the go and you can record radio to the device as well. The 1GB version holds 16 hours of tunes and Toshiba says the battery is good for 20 hours of use. Sync and charging of the players is done via USB. Compatible file types are WMA/MP3/WAV and it can play DRM tunes as well.
