Toshiba Launches Duo of HDD gigashot Camcorders

It seems that when recording video you can never have enough batteries or tapes/DVD's to last the day. With Toshiba's new gigashot GSC-R30/R60 camcorders however, at least we can say goodbye to the multiple tapes as these beauties record straight to hard drive.

Using 30GB and 60GB 1.8" hard drives as a medium, the two camcorders record using the MPEG-2 codec for its high quality and DVD-readiness, although the user can configure the bitrate for high quality or lengthy recording sessions, with up to 13 hours of space available at the highest bitrate (9.6Mbps) on the 60GB model. Also, since hard drives aren't linear you won't have to worry about accidentally recording over the first 5 minutes of your daughter's recital.

Other cool features are image stabilization, a gravity sense that locks the HDD heads if the camera falls, an ethernet interface on the docking station, and the ability to take a still photo from the 2MP sensor while shooting video. The 30GB GSC-R30 will run for $799, while the larger GSC-R60 will run $999.
