USB 3.0 Peripheral Dev. Kit to Speed Up Product Debugging

USB 3.0 is expected to be well on its way into mass market. Now with a little help from USB Promoter Group, things can speed up quite a bit with the imminent release of the Peripheral Development Kit (PDK) which assists developers on benchmarking and debugging their new SuperSpeed USB gadgets. The kit contains reference USB 3.0 hosts (two PCIe add-in cards) which are useful in testing against a wide variety of peripherals; a 1m USB 3.0 cable; documentation; command verifier tool; a prototype driver; and compliance driver for Windows 7.

The USB 3.0 PDK is now available to USB-IF members only for $1500. Considering early adopters are dying to get their hands on the first USB 3.0 storage, this PDK should help to speed up market roll-out so the pricing for such a kit is quite reasonable. However, members still have to meet a certain criteria in order to purchase this PDK. They have to be in 'good standing'; disclose plans that their companies intend to make a commercially available product; and agree to actively participate SuperSpeed USB at IDF, CES, and other relevant trade shows.
