SATA to USB Cable Works with Seagate 750GB

  May 18th, 2006

If you are a geek like me you probably have several extra SATA or IDE hard drives laying around. The problem I run into is often the lack of connection options. there is now a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cable kit that will allow you to use both IDE and SATA drives as external storage without the need of a bulky enclosure.

The kit includes the SATA/IDE to USB converter cable and the required power converter to power the drives up. The power adapter can be use don 100v-240v making it suitable for both sides of the pond. You can also use the cable kit to power and connect your CD or DVD drives as well. USB connectivity provides 480Mbps data transfer rate and no drivers are required for Windows XP, 2000 or ME. All this for a low $35!

Enough about the price, how fast is it? When connected to the new 750GB Seagate the average read speed was a swift 32.7MB/s and when used with a 150GB 10k-rpm Raptor the read speed was 32.3MB/s. That's fast!
