Mod Your Old UPS into a USB Hard Drive

Mod Your Old UPS into a USB Hard Drive

If you have an old UPS (uninterruptible power supply) lying around and the skills to trace some leads inside the device you can turn it into a USB hard drive. What you need is the UPS, a notebook hard drive, a notebook hard drive external enclosure and a voltage meter.

I don’t think this is a project that I would like to tackle, it seems complex to me. Why would you want to make your UPS into a hard drive? Well the author of the video says that if you down load files you don’t want people to see, like porn or David Hasselhoff MP3’s you can use the drive as a stealth device. Take the USB cable with you and the idea is no one would know that the UPS is actually a hard drive. Video after the jump.
