Red Alert! USBDumper Steals Files from Thumbdrives

  September 19th, 2006

WE RECOMMEND
A new threat to the security of USB drives when plugged into a host computer has surfaced called USBDumper. According to Centennial Software USBDumper is a hacking tool designed to copy files off any USB drive attached to a computer by making a complete image of the drive. Someone can then come back and steal the data or use recovery tools to retrieve deleted material from the image. USBDumper is a bit of a turn around as typically USB drives are the devices used to infect and steal data from a PC, and with this new threat the PC is stealing data from the USB drive. You can see a video of USBDumper in action at Watchyourend.com, where Centennial Software sells a application designed to prevent USBDumper from accessing your flash drive.
