WE RECOMMEND
Verizon and Sprint, two of the largest and most popular carriers in the US, both use CDMA technology for their cellular phone networks. AT&T (and effectively the rest of the planet) use GSM technology for their networks. CDMA phones cannot access GSM networks and vice versa. This means that until today Verizon customers traveling to any other parts of the world are effectively out of luck for phone service or data. Verizon has an early valentine present for its business oriented data subscribers. They've inked deals with GSM carriers world wide and are now selling a USB data modem, the AD3700 Global Modem, that can operate on MANY data networks worldwide. The USB data card functions as a normal high speed EVDO modem in the US and is a perfect companion for data on the go. It doesn't require a battery and can fold its USB connector for easy transportation. The exciting features come into play if you need to travel outside of Verizon's very healthy EVDO range. At your request Verizon will flip a switch and henceforth you can connect to the fastest network available in your location. The AD3700 can connect to all manner of GSM data including HSPA, UMTS and HSDPA. Traditionally, the ability to use a "roaming" mode has come with steep up-charges, but none are mentioned in Verizon's release. Do yourself a favor and read the fine print before you grab one. At only $79 (after $50 rebate plus a 2 year contract) anything too good to be true usually isn't. About Everything USB
