Create a Windows Vista Password Reset Disk with USB Drive

  October 5th, 2007

WE RECOMMEND

If you are afraid you could possibly forget your Windows Vista password, TechRepublic has a story up that walks you through setting up a password reset disc on a USB flash drive. The file that makes this all work is small at 2kb, so any old 128MB flash drive will be fine for the task. If you only have newer flash drives with more capacity around, you can use those as well.

The catch is that you need to know what the password is to be able to make the disc, so you can’t make the disc on a Vista machine you know the password for and reset the password on a different machine. Another potential problem is that if someone finds the flash drive and knows it has the reset disc on it they could change your password. The entire process is easy and step-by-step instructions are provided at TechRepublic.
