Vodafone HSDPA USB Modem Coming Soon

  July 11th, 2006

Vodafone HSDPA USB Modem Coming SoonFor those who heavily rely on mobile net access, the launch of HSDPA wireless 1.8Mbps service by Vodafone maybe as exciting as the debut of the broadband service. Though, Vodafone is only shipping the CardBus version when a growing number of notebooks are skipping it in favor of the new ExpressCard and some like the Apple MacBook simply do without any type of slot connectivity.

So, you will be happy to know Vodafone will soon offer a USB HSDPA modem as well as an ExpressCard version. Both will be carried by Vodafone Australia initially in Q4 2006, and hopefully will be available in the rest of the world by the end of the year. There's one bad news: the price. As if the $299 CardBus version weren't expensive enough, the USB HSDPA modem will likely cost $399, according to Dave McNaughton, Senior Project Manager at Vodafone. The good news is that the chipset for the Vodafone-branded Huawei E220 USB modem is already scalable for future 3.6Mbps network upgrade.
