A new worm has turned up that targets USB storage devices called the W32/LiarVB-A worm. This worm doesn’t cause problems on the host machine or attempt to corrupt or steal data. Rather this worm displays information about AIDS/HIV. The worm looks for USB drives and installs a hidden file called autorun.inf and the next time the drive is plugged into the USB port of a computer the AIDS info is displayed. Sophos says the hacker responsible still broke the law with this virus even though it may have a more humanitarian purpose than making money for the writer. The displayed information even has a marquees message telling those infected that the file doesn’t make harmful changes to their PCs.
