The idea of wirelessly streaming in real-time high definition audio and video certainly
has been around for awhile now; sadly those first generation devices were really lacking. Even when you lowered the bar of "high definition" to 720p, they still failed to impress. Recently we took a look at the
Veebeam HD and were fairly impressed, but even it had some issues and drawbacks.
Well, it seems another company is willing to give the idea of
Wireless USB audio/video streaming a go. Warpia's all new StreamHD hopes to do what their previous model was unable to do: provide both high definition video and audio with a stutter free, user friendly experience. As with all Wireless USB devices the StreamHD consist of two parts a large USB transceiver that sends data from your computer to a main base station which in turn plugs into your HDTV. While it appears the connectivity options are severely limited to HDMI and optical out, Warpia does claim a 30 foot range on the dongle and does claim it can do 5.1 surround sound while pumping out a 1080p signal (no word on whether this is line of sight or not and if it can do 3D 1080p, or even 7.1 surround sound). With a price tag of 169.99, the
Warpia StreamHD is fairly competitive but we do wish they had included more options like composite and component.
