X-Box 360 HD DVD USB Drive Coming Nov. 2006

  May 10th, 2006

I4U has scored one of the first images of the much-anticipated external HD DVD Drive for Xbox 360. Since we put it on E-USB, you can guess it's a USB-interfaced storage which brings to another question whether or not MS will allow us to install this on the upcoming Windows Vista. If so, that will sure give us some reasons to pre-order one for this holiday when it ships Nov. 2006.

Physically, the HD DVD USB Drive is comparable to the X-Box itself in terms of size knowingly to be about the same of a regular 5.25" external USB burner. On the back of the unit, there are a mini-USB and 2 regular USB ports - one of which is for the 802.11a/b/g wireless adapter that can piggy back the drive. You will need a spare outlet as this thing could never be powered by USB alone.

Our Sharp 32" LCD TV has a HDCP-compliant DVI; though, X-Box 360's non-HDCP friendly component output could cause some confusions over encrypted HD DVDs that reportedly will downscale resolutions to 540p.
