Amenbo's Truly Unique Five-finger Mouse
A big part of learning how to be a 3D Computer Assisted Designer is learning how to work around the typical computer peripheral input controllers limitations. In many ways, working with 3D CAD/CAM is a lot like juggling with one hand tied behind your back. It is not intuitive, and the learning curve is extremely steep. Every so often a new company / manufacture comes along and tries to change the way you work with 3D applications. Most fail, some make things a little bit better and easier. The latest to try and tackle the way we interact with out computers (for 3D applications at least) is Amenbo and their five-finger mouse.

The Amenbo five-finger mouse certainly is a unique take on things, as it seems to combine the touch and pressure sensitivity of a touch pad with the speed and intuitiveness of a mouse. The end result is five small sensors (one for each finger and thumb) attached via ribbon cable to a base station where your palm would rest. By combining this freedom of movement with the fact that the computer will instantly know not only which "finger" is being moved but also how much pressure is being applied, users should (in theory) be able to sculpt and mold their 3 dimensional models much more quickly and efficiently. This is the theory. The reality is yet to be known as the Amenbo five-finger mouse is still only in the early development stages. No word on when (or if) this will make it to market and how much it will cost.
