Patriot Pushing USB 2.0 Limit with 39MB/s Flash Drive

  January 2nd, 2007

WE RECOMMEND
Patriot Pushing USB 2.0 Limit with 39MB/s Flash Drive

At CES 2007 next week, a lot of stuff will make headlines. On Everything USB, you are going to see this - the first flash drive to reach the limit of USB 2.0 realistic bandwidth (75% of 60MB/s). The speedy X-Porter thumbdrive from Patriot, now at version 2, features, in their words, an amazing 266X transfer rate, which translates to about 39MB/s. The former champion hits 33MB/s, offered by Corsair Voyager 8GB and Buffalo Japan. At close to 40MB/s, you are going to see a lot of systems (even with full USB 2.0 capabilities) that aren't going to reach this kind of speed. In our experience, optimized USB hosts on Intel ICH7/8 and nForce 430/570/680 will have better chance of unleashing the potential of the X-Port XT.
