Sandisk Ultra Backup - Hassle-free 1-button Backup (U3 Stays)

  January 7th, 2009

WE RECOMMEND

There's no easy way of backing up a notebook other than lugging along a bus-powered USB drive. At some point, most road warriors might grow tired of the extra weight and the hassle of firing up the software. If you don't have several hundred gigabytes of stuff that needs daily backup, SanDisk Ultra Backup flash drive might be something to consider. It is probably the first thumbdrive we've seen to feature a backup button which is usually found on external hard drives. Hitting that button triggers the key's backup app where you can either let Sandisk decides what to transfer onto the drive, or define your own backup scheme. So, when you press the same button next time, the Ultra Backup knows what to do.

The security of the content is handled by the onboard 256-bit AES hardware encryption (via data scrambling at the flash controller). Besides the backup button and having what appears to be a better slider mechanism for revealing and retracting the USB connector, the Ultra Backup drive still ships with the infamous U3 that is likely the platform the app is running on. Most people will likely need the 32GB for future-proof reasons, but there are capacities ranging from 8GB ($39.99) to 64GB ($199.99).
