Long before the mouse saw the light of day, there was the keyboard. A simple array of keys bearing the QWERTY layout common on the electric typewriter, along with a few arrow and function keys and that's about it.

Today's keyboards however are about as varied as they come, featuring shortcut keys, power buttons, and multimedia controls. And that's just the beginning, too! Wireless keyboards are a gateway to surfing the internet from the couch, and HTPC keyboards may have built-in mouse emulators and the ability to control your television and VCR. Others have backlit keys and illuminated LCD displays, and a select few have advanced macro-scripting built right in. If ergonomics are called into question, there's split keyboards and one-handed keyboards to fit your style. Indeed, the times have changed.
