LaCie Rugged Mini: Same Great Taste... Now Less Filling!
Recently, LaCie announced their latest addition to their Rugged line of portable hard drives: the Rugged Mini. While the Rugged Mini keeps the same iconoclastic orange wrap around bumper with silver aluminum center, this version has lost a lot of weight. To be precise, this version is upwards of 40% smaller than the original Rugged drive. This coupled with the fact that will come in sizes ranging from 500GB (both 7200- and 5400-rpm version are available) to 1TB means that the while it has gotten smaller on the outside, the capacity inside has not also been shrunk. Where the Mini is a Rugged Mini, it also is rain, shock and even pressure resistant. LaCie advertises that with its 1 ton of pressure resistance abilities you could probably run it over with a car - albeit small car - without fear of losing your data. Helping to round out the feature set this Mini boasts is the standard LaCie software suite (that we have looked at before with the LaCie Rikiki which not allows you to backup & restore your data but also encrypt it with AES encryption. With a MSRP of 119.99 for the 500GB (7200-rpm) model and $159.99 for the 1TB model, this new entry to the Rugged line may just be awfully tempting to many LaCie fans.
