LaCie has a new member for their external hard drive family called the LaCie d2 SAFE Hard Drive. The drive is equipped with a biometric sensor and 128-bit AES hardware encryption. The drive has a 500 GB capacity and has a triple interface design including USB 2.0 and Firewire 800/400. USB connectivity makes the drive both Mac and Windows compatible. The 128-bit AES encryption is deemed by the NSA as appropriate for files up to TOP SECRET level. Up to ten finger prints can be stored in the drive for five users which means a minimum of two fingerprints per user. You can also set rights by user to give read only or read and write access to users based on fingerprints. Pricing is set at $299 and the drive will be available later this month. The new drive offers increased capacity and better encryption over the LaCie SAFE we reviewed last year. About Everything USB
