As many cigar and cigarillo aficionados know, most (if not all) butane lighters are a big no-no as they can cause the tobacco to absorb so of the fumes and create a very nasty after taste. The usual answer is to either use a very high end, “flameless” style lighter, or better still an old fashioned match. Well it appears that we all now have a third option: the USB-based electric lighters.

Unlike most lighters this new gadget does not rely upon chemical combustion to light your smoke of choice; rather it uses an electric induction coil to heat the material to the point of burning. In simplest terms, this means that there is no possibility of after-taste added to your cancer stick and you can enjoy your particular brand of death the way it was meant to be! At this point, the Jigger USB Lighter comes in two models the more budget friendly USB Gadget Lighter and the more high-end USB Prestige Lighter.

The budget model sells for $29.99 and the deluxe goes for $49.99. Both recharge their batteries via USB – charging time varies from 30 to 90 minutes – and the Jigger Gadget Lighter is good 250 lightings; whereas the Jigger Prestige is good for 300. Other small differences include the actual size of the lighter and the prestige model also includes a small flashlight.

Whether or not these differences are worth the large difference in price is up to you, but one thing is certain it certainly is unique. The only major negative we can see with Jigger’s design is that the coil will be too small for most cigars, but should light both cigarettes and cigarillos. For us, it certainly won’t be replacing good old fashioned matches, but it is very unique and sure to be a conversation starter if nothing else.

I use a torch, because it it helps light the cigar more efficiently without an distortion of the cigars flavor.
