Microsoft RoundTable 360-degree USB Cam Improves Virtual Meetings
October 23rd, 2006
Microsoft is announcing a new A/V teleconference system slated for delivery mid-2007 called RoundTable. Basically the guts of the system is a table top USB camera that takes a 360 degree image of the room along with digitized images of all participants in the conference. When a particular participant is talking other attendees see the image of the speaker so they can better associate questions and answers with the correct person. The camera is said to be about the size of a common speaker phone according to Information Week. The software portion of the system records the audio and video so it can be played back later. The system is in testing right now and is expected to retail for under $3000. RoundTable works with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Office Live Meeting. About Everything USB
