D-link 'Draft n' USB Adapter Makes no Speed Claims

  October 18th, 2006

WE RECOMMEND
This D-link's circular-shaped USB adapter isn't much to look at, but the $99.99 DWA-142 RangeBooster N is one of the first with 'draft 802.11n' wireless clients to hit the market in time for this Christmas. The company can't hold off the 'n' product plan until 2008. Well, Netgear, Intel and Linksys are all rolling out their own 'draft n' routers and cards so it's irrational not to do so. Early adopters are advised to match the brand of the client with the router for compatibility issues. With the DIR-625 router and the DWA-142, you can expect 12x speed and 4x farther range than an average 802.11g network. I'm personally going with MIMO 108Mbps until the 'n' problems are worked out.
