Hawking Boosts WiFi with Dish Adapter

  December 18th, 2005

Wireless is truly a blessing for eliminating cable runs and mobile laptop users, but it's also a tedious pain in the rear when you can't maintain a working connection. Several products such as the Cantenna are made with the single purpose of boosting your range by the use of a directional antenna, although this only works if you have a wireless card in the first place and it happens to have an antenna port. Fret not, Hawking Technologies has come up with a dish of a solution to this potential dilemma.

The Hi-Gain Wireless-G Dish Adapter is not only a powerful 8dBi directional antenna said to improve reception by 300%, but it's also an 802.11G USB wireless adapter of its own with WPA2 encryption support. There's also an integrated signal strength indicator to aid in pinpointing the location of the access point. Hawking has listed the Dish adapter at $89, although they estimate street prices to fall somewhere around $70.
